An appreciation and enjoyment of the natural environment are central to the Dales Holiday Cottages experience. Here's what you can do to help.

Follow the countryside code
Always try to follow existing paths protecting local flora and fauna.
'Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints'
Keep your dog on a lead if in a farmed area.
Remember to close any gates you open and always use stiles to climb over walls.
Take your litter home with you.
Our heritage belongs to us all – take care not to disturb ruins and historic sites.

Buy local food and gifts
Northern Britain is renowned for producing high-quality fresh food and drink. Your holiday to Wensleydale would not be complete without cheese from the creamery, the Highlands without a dram of Whisky, or the Peak District without some Bakewell tart. Buying regional produce significantly reduces 'food miles' and as such your carbon footprint.

Shop at local markets
Markets, including farmers markets, are still an integral and pivotal part of the week in many towns of Northern Britain. They normally are a vibrant and exciting experience providing you with a great opportunity to meet local people as well as buy local food, drinks and gifts.

Visit local attractions
There is a huge variety of local attractions throughout Northern Britain, ranging from stately homes and castles, to rope making and teapot museums. They offer unique experiences helping to enhance and enrich your holiday enjoyment whilst assisting the local economy.

Explore the area by foot or use a bike
If you're looking for an idea for a walk or a bike ride, contact a local tourist information office, they would be delighted to help. Walking or cycling allows you to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of Northern Britain and gain access to areas which are inaccessible by road, like Malham Cove.
